Trade-freeze scam
A long-standing scam has been targeting traders through offers that appear too good to be true. This may include overpays, requests for you to offer on items, claims of free items, or asking to “see your items” in a trade.
In this scam, the victim is often encouraged to place items into the trade first or make an offer. Once the victim engages, the scammer uses exploits to manipulate the trade forcing the victim to accept and disrupting the interface, preventing normal actions such as declining the trade.
Warning Signs:
- Deals that seem too good to be true
- Requests for you to offer or place items first
- Asking to “see your items” in trade
- Pressure to act quickly or continue the trade
- Trades that feel unusual, restrictive, or suspicious
How to Stay Safe:
- Never place items first in suspicious trades
- Be cautious of unrealistic offers
- Do not continue trades if anything feels off
- Leave immediately if you feel pressured or restricted
- Block and report suspicious users
If something feels wrong, trust your instincts and exit the trade. It is always better to avoid a risky trade than to lose your items.
Stay alert and trade safely.
